This is the problem the employee is having:

I worked at a video store, a major one. I wasn't trained, and often stressed out over the amount of work required by those in my position (one step above CSR, one step below ASM).

I forgot three times to lock the bottom safe at work. Once when I was new. Once when I was flipping out from till crashing and not being able to contact anyone. And last from being guilted into coming in dead sick, since no one else could. (after that day I had a doctor's note saying I had chest infection and required to take leave of work for 5 days)

But I could understand why if I left the safe open again, it would breach the cash handling policies, and I would be terminated.

One shift, as I was closing, I recounted a deposit of the a till by another employee of my position, and counted 10 cents less. I changed the amount, put it in the safe, and went on my merry way. Meanwhile there was more cash problems, and I contacted my Asm who told me to leave it as he would take care of it the next morning.

The next morning, the Area Manager and a Head Office employee came in (my ASM wanted me gone, and knew the night before I was having cash issues), and were informed about a mistake of mine. Turns out that dime was actually in the deposit slip, and I just missed it when I counted.
They fired me over that, saying it was cash handling policy breach.

Is this legal? Can I do something about it.
