I have been employed with the county, as a cook in the detention center for over 9 yrs. This past week, in front of a co-worker, I was told my set shift(M-F) would be changed to all weekends from here on out, and that the other employee would be assuming my position. I believe this was done on purpose, to enforce me to resign. If I quit on my own, I would loose benefits, and this other person will work for less pay. She knew about this several weeks ago and had informed the two trustees who work in the kitchen. Would the above be discrimination towards me? I am a 56 yr old white female with no formal education. My husband is 73 yrs old and we have no resources, so I must work, but under these conditions I don't know if I can. Timewise I have employed there longer than anyone else. Does that help me any? The Sheriff has the hire/fire at will in this state. |
