This is the original problem from an employee...
Last Tuesday, a situation occurred where a coworker of mine realized she'd been uncompliant on a NJ state contract by sending purchase orders to our dealers and not having them sent directly to us (the manufacturer), which is required. Instead of admitting her mistake and trying to resolve it, she decided to falsely report No Sales on the mandatory purchasing report that was due by the end of the day. Then she instructed me to send in the documents, as if I was the one who prepared them. I'm scared to report this and other problems I'm having because this is a VERY small company and I don't think a confidential report would be kept confidential. I'm almost certain I would be retaliated against, but I don't want to not report this and be held accountable for something I did not do.

HELP!!!!

Oh great. I have been and am in a similar situation in regards to working in a very small facility and confidentiality is almost non existent. Does this person have any delegation authority like a boss over you? If so you are following instruction. Even if she is not your boss but for some reason feel you need to follow with the request here is my suggestion. Continue with her request and put a memo with the work that "as per (put her name there) instruction I am forwarding these purchase orders. It prevent you from appearing responsible for the faulty work and puts the laundry on the line so to say without you having to say anything. Then if you ever get asked anything about it you simply direct them to her saying I only forwarded the work as requested. Let them sort it out themselves. I wish I had done that. 9 times out of 10 in a small facility they know whats what, but don't want the truth. Be well, have a great day.

I am not sure I completely understand the situation but, I will offer this piece of advice. The truth is always the truth and never changes. It isn't difficult to remember the truth.

You must do the right thing regardless. If you don't, you are just as guilty as the perpetrator.
